Season’s Greetings, and I hope the day finds you both prosperous and well!

You good folks are putting together some extraordinarily festive experiences for one another. (Yes, I’ve been peeking. Please don’t tell my parents.)

So: How to register these wonderful occasions? Here’s what you need to know:

Please review the guidelines for WinterFest events and venues, posted here.

  • On the support portal, there’s a new Special Questions – Basic Account or Guest Login question type called Winter Festival. Please create a ticket of that question type. (Note: The question is set up that way so that everyone can use it. If you have full support access, we do ask that you log in first, but it’s not a requirement.)
  • On your ticket, tell us about your venue or event:

  1. Start date and end date (for a venue), OR Date + start and end time (PST) for an event
  2. The main host or hostess name (for an event)
  3. A title (max. 35 characters)
  4. Up to four lines of descriptive text (max. 35 characters each).

  • Once we accept the event, make note of your ticket number. It’ll look something like 4051-2222222. (Please ignore that “4051-” prefix. It’s the rest of the number that serves as a key to your event.)
  • In world, prepare a folder with your ticket # as the folder name.
  • In the folder, put three copy-enabled assets:

  1. The snapshot you want to display to show your setup off. That should be named exactly the same as your title (#3, above).
  2. A landmark. Name it exactly the same as your title (#3 above), and stick ” landmark” at the end.
  3. A note card with your descriptive text (#4 above). That should be named exactly the same as your title (#3 above), with ” notecard” at the end.

So, to recap: Say, for example, you’ve put together an event called “Grinch Egg Hunt” and had it accepted under Ticket #4051-9999999. Your in world registration packet would be one folder containing three copy-enabled assets, packed this way :

  • Last step: Find WinterFest Linden in world and drop the folder on his profile.

Rumour is that Nicholaz Beresford has found the bugfix for this. And Teeple is one of the worst for closing his posts, so I actually don’t feel bad being off topic.

(Tped 1 time and crashed again and again …)SO How can a SL citizen Plan well in advance a “Event”, investing in it his Lindens$ (in some cases lots of Linden$) and then I pass upon the fact that they already send out notes to their friends / customers /clients … that on that day their will be an “Event” … and Partytime in Linden Labs … DOWNTIME !!!!! (ie .. Would like to see the face if your CEO if he ever would come to belgium and has to wait for hours on end after his chauffeur driven car? Well I would then gladly answer at the phone … We thank you for your patience …. I’ll be filling out that info for a venue.I, for one, am looking forward to a winter festival in SL (whilst I enjoy the heat of summer in RL) and know that, even with all the glitches and unforseen downtime, LL is striving to produce a better environment for its community. With such a rapid, unforseen increase in numbers of citizens these hiccups are to be expected.I hope all the new citizens, as well as the old ones, will take the time to participate in the festival and explore more of the grid, enjoying the creativity of the many brilliant and artistic minds (and some very odd ones too) that are the bricks and mortar of the community.There will be a cup of hot cocoa, some ice skates and an icy snowball waiting for anyone who visits me. Sorry, I just can’t resist the thought of a snowball fight having never had one in rl!

    December 12th, 2007 at 1:26 PM PSTThanks for the winter festival!Maybe I’m alone here but while I do at times get frustrated with SL acting weird and things like the spamming of the event calender not being enforced, it’s still amazing what all I can do in this world so I’ve learned to live with the constant “beta” feel SL has. I remember back to a year ago when the grid would be brought to it’s knees when over 20K people logged on and can see that yes, things are improving.All that said, lets hope the SL holiday season is nice and lets all have some fun!     does anyone realize that this is a game… persay …… as opposed to real life? all computer programs, software, applications, scripting…… they all have their glitches…. with billions of users using different combinations of all the different technical toys in billions of different ways for billions of different reasons, how could there not be glitches? I love this game and I get downtime just like anyone else…… so downtime is rl work time or rl sleep time and maybe even rl vacuuming time…….
    I give a thumbs up to the Lindens….. for their hard work, for their dedication, and for their efforts in doing their very best to try and ensure that everyone who uses SL gets as much enjoyment out of the ‘game’ as they possibly can…

    December 12th, 2007 at 4:13 PM PSTI am going to run off to another virtual world, ( when there is one) It will be so much better than this one ( If someone ever designs one) It will not have any of the problems SL does ( Hmmmm, is that so )
    I t must be really easy to build a virtual world where I can make a living, do anything I want to with scripts, make anything I want to with the tools provided, I mean there are so many other worlds like SL out there, well arent there??
    And, of course SL is old fashioned, its been running for 6 years or more, so the new ones will have so much more to do, cant really think what that might be, but they will be so much better, a bit like the grass over there, it looks so much greener than here .
    I want a world where every thing runs perfectly all the time, where i can stop people messing with my things, no grief, no stealing of my property, just like real life, umm, hold on, that IS like real life.Please can someone tell me where I can find a perfect world where nothing ever goes wrong, please??

    December 12th, 2007 at 5:14 PM PSTI was wandering around some water sims just now and found a brand new build in the middle of Eldridge that doesn’t show on the map yet, with a bunch of stuff for the Linden vs. Residents snowball fight for Winter Fest 2007.I was all upset that the Lindens were gonna let us lob snowballs at them and no one told me about it! But now I see the blog entry and all is right in my doggie world.If y’all are frustrated with the Lindens, keep your eye on this one! :-)

We normally sell from 20k to 25k per day in our retail locations. You have set a new record my partner sold 0L I sold 300L. Here is a hint I do not make money here you do not make money from me simple as that. I supported this game from my pocket for 2 years and with the current state of affairs I shall not return to my pocket. You have, it seems, sealed your fate and I am sure many others have the same emotions. If you can not test these things before you launch them why bother this game is far from the conceptual stages, in fact from what I have observed has crossed the summit of the bell curve. Your only chance now is to create a stable platform to preserve your customer base. I have lived through these supposed upgrades since the online totals were 1900. It had lag then but up until version 6.0 conditions improved. After the event of 6.0 all has been a strange mixture of new toys but poorer performance. As far as inventory loss is concerned I never gave it much thought until I went to get a commonly used script only to find it missing. This makes me wonder what else your Incompetent programming has removed from my inventory. All in All lindens ,especially you Phil, there is no excuse for this. The repeated failures all the same type. Yes you have a hard job heh well not as hard as most of us out here in the zoo. Oh and if you left the blogs that are sensitive open you would not have subject jumping like this wasting others prime space. shame on you for putting us through for so called fun

Honor is theirs for their dedication and for keeping this great and yet unmatched thing running.Anyway, dedication and hard work doesn not necessarily imply being on the right track in all cases. The not reasonable age (ID in fact) verification plans, the gambling ban, voice introduction – and spending a lot of ongoing attention on hardware eating shiny new features instead of old bugs were not very encouraging. Many open questions and no answers. Nevertheless, overall SL is still unmatched. And most customers…err…residents still enjoy the game, in spite of all the flaws. In RL everybody complains on the weather, in SL everybody complains on the lag. As long as it doesn´t rain trojans…

I didn’t say that, I quoted someone.Oops sorry, question stands then for the OP, because to me Christmas is BBQ outside, prawns, waterfights with nephews, I only ever seen snow once 1000km further south, but in SL it’s predominately winter as per the usual Northern Hemisphere theme, so I go with that, just don’t get upset when I wear shorts and singlet on the ice rink :)

    December 13th, 2007 at 5:34 AM PSTWow, I was going to post something about an event I want to see registered (I’ll just send the folder to Winterfest Linden and not burden anyone else with the details), but “inventory loss” is not a simple thing. Although I’m not working for Linden Labs, I do work on many of the same kinds of technology vis databases and “asset” sharing, and have a fair idea what’s going on. They just changed and increased their storage capacity and, if the evidence is right, are preparing to make major changes in how the Asset Servers are configured.The only thing the Lindens *aren’t* doing in communicating what they are trying to do about the issue, which makes it look lke they’re doing nothing, is dumping all the nitty gritty details of all the tests and preps and key binding tables and on and on in preparation for whatever idea will work best.Heh.. maybe they should prep a web page or 500 *with* all the details and you can go and read it and see.Just look at it this way, SL is a creature evolving in less than one human lifetime and it’s bound to look like a squid one day, a gazelle the next and a warthog the day after. If you wait long enough and keep it alive, it may evolve into something you can enjoy and admire.

Ever wonder why all evidence (star positions, weather, etc) point to September? Even though your biggest celebration got moved to within a few days of the pagan celebration of the Solstice (aka Yule)? Or the fact that anotrher term for it is yuletide? We do not mind sharing the time period, but please do not claim it as yours and that you were there first. Laughable since various forms of paganism existed *long* before Christianity.Various related traditions connected to christmass can also be tracked back. One biggie: santa has his original roots as Odin.

I know of no other place where I can see so much varied creativity and interact with so many people I would never and will never meet in RL, so I’ll keep coming back no matter the problems, like most people do.PS….could one of you creative sorts invent a bowling ball for knocking down tin soldiers? ;)

    It is wonderful that Linden labs is taking some time to spend with their customers.

Christianity makes up a small proportion of the world’s faiths. For the majority on the planet, if not in SL, it is not a holiday at all. December 25th is a normal working day like any other.Sure. the majority are from the northern hemisphere, but there are substantial chunky numbers in South America, particularly Brazil, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and some in India, let alone our friends down in Antarctica, all of whom are enjoying summer right now, and not a snowflake to be seen – except maybe the latter, probably not sunbathing down there :) Mind you, lots of places in the northern hemisphere don’t get snow in winter either. So what is it with the obsession to put snow everywhere, making it hard to orient and navigate on some sims?One day, you might wake up and realise this is not a sandbox in California, but a global beastie…
