Welcome, Second Life educators, designers, research specialists and 3D Learning activists!
The SaLamander Project
Creating a Community-built index of Second Life content, activities, and tools of educational value using evidence-based approaches.
Welcome to the SaLamander Wiki - a folksonomy of practical and theoretical applications, builds and designs in the Virtual World of Second Life for the purposes of teaching and learning. The Salamander Project is a collaborative project open to ANY Second Life educator and coordinated by staff at The Center for Advanced Technology in Education at the University of Oregon. This project is open to educators affiliated with K-12, higher education, not-for-profit and corporate teaching and learning institutions interested in creating a resource that frames and focuses the need for a Community of Practice surrounding the aims of teaching and learning in the Second Life MUVE.
OPEN TO ALL PROFESSIONAL EDUCATORS: please register (top right corner of this page) and complete your professional SLED profile here

- identification --> content expert vetting --> dissemination
- Use the SaLamander HUD inworld to identify SLED builds, tools, and people!
- Log in to the Sloog [1] site and see what has been tagged with the HUD
- Participate in discussions, events, design-based research and focus groups to determine the best criteria for judging the effectiveness of Second Life learning assets
- Log in HERE and complete the details of useful SaLamander HUD tags for the SLED community to find, discuss, and vote on their value. For MERLOT, you may volunteer to review materials placed in the MERLOT database or placed in the MERLOT's Center for Learning in Virtual Environments community.
- Register as a SaLamander Project member, connect with others and share your projects with other SL EDucators, link back to the SaLamander Wiki stubs you develop, help develop your SL ED Community of Practice!
- Log in to the MERLOT's Center for Learning in Virtual Environments (CLIVE) [2] and see what SLED Learning Assets have made it through the review process
- and contact Wainbrave Bernal or Silver Tomorrow inworld if you have questions or would like to participate in ANY of these layers of the expert vetting of SL Learning Assets for MERLOT [3].
